If you choose not to have dialysis treatments, your doctor and healthcare team will support your decision, and will help you and your family to cope with intense emotions that accompany the end of your life. Your team can do a great deal to keep you comfortable in the final passage to death. This kind of care is called palliative care, and is meant to help relieve physical symptoms and attend to your feelings, your spiritual needs, and those of your family. If you stop dialysis, you are considered to be in a terminal state and may be eligible for hospice care, which can be provided either at home or at a hospice facility.
