When you are on dialysis, diet continues to play an important role in the treatment of your kidney disease. The dialysis diet is designed to help control your blood pressure, and to help make up for the loss of kidney function, which can greatly affect how well you feel.  Your nephrologist or kidney doctor will order blood work, drawn at regular intervals, to see how well treatment is working. Based on your lab results, your renal dietitian will make recommendations as to whether or not to change the amount of protein, potassium, phosphorous or sodium you should eat on a daily basis.

This is where you can be an active partner in your health care. The renal dietitian will work with you to develop a meal plan that ensures good nutrition and includes the foods you like.
